Magazine cover analysis - Katy Perry

This magazine cover has a simple and sophisticated background and varies the colours used. It is using pink which matches in with the pink flowers in her dress and around her body.

The way the title is being half hidden by Katy Perry shows she is important and tells you the main story of the music magazine. Also this image used by Billboard is a medium to long shot, showing the majority of her boy also indicates the importance of her within the magazine.

The way Katy is looking in the picture shows a comfortable, eye contacting look and shows someone who is used to being in front of the camera with the music industry. It gives the audience a sense that she knows that she is popular and that she is important.

Sans serif font is used which shows the formality in the magazine, it is only used in the Splash, which points out clearly that the big article is about Katy Perry. The way all the different headlines are used on the left hand side shows that Katy is the star of this persuading you to read it, it gives the full picture of her with no headlines written across the image but placed neatly in line with how the posture of Katy is being displayed.

The font colours are simple and formal, only using black and white with little headings of yellow which all match into the clothing of her and the flowers, this all links and shows us as the audience that the house style for this was kept relevant and natural.

Youth in Revolt - Official Trailer

How are young people presented in contemporary media?

This film shows how a young innocent shy lad retaliates to his messed up family and conscience, showing how he acts to it and what the cause of his young life has bought him to.

The way the camera shots are being took it shows how the young lad awkwardly feels when his family act like they do in-front of him, we learn different effects by the expressions on his face as they act 'passionately' but with no love. The camera on the boys parent shows that she doesn't care, the way they zoom and how she is shown to feel comfortable with anyone shows the personality in her character and shows how she isn't respectable, it also shows the distance in the mother-son bond.

The film is based on the boys point of view with him speaking about his life which shows that this film is to make you feel like you are him and put you in the situation and position of him. From the film trailer we learn that young people feel awkward and intimidated by the parents splitting and how the women react to the marriage divorce, it shows the effect it has on the child as a person witnessing it at a young age.

In this film the lighting doesnt seem to change, it is a bright atmosphere throughtout which could link to the theme of upset and misunderstanding all the way through the film with the characters. By this i mean that the lighting stays the same, like the personality is, and it isnt expected to change in the film. The costume of the characters are casual which shows that they are original people, this says that young people are happy being normal and are fine about the way they dress, they don't expect more and agree at how they act and dress.  The facial expression for the main character is that he tries to be happy, but we as an audience realise he is shy and that his expressions prove this.

Throughout this film there is background music and the lyrics relate to how the character is feeling and what it is thinking/acting like. For instance the lyrics 'shot through the heart, youre too late' comes on just after the young person gets told the "woman of his dreams" already has a boyfriend.. There is background music constantly when the young lad is talking about his life, when he is rubbing suncream on the girls back, she says something inappropriate and the music drops beats and rhythm instantly in a sharp way to show how he feels. This suggests how the young people feel and gives the audience a understanding of how they feel in the scenes.

Waterloo Road - Series 6 Episode 20 Trailer

How are young people presented in contemporary media?

This Programme is Waterloo Road, we know that waterloo road is a school and involves relationships between teachers and the pupils, and how they are treat and how they act.

The camera is used in many different ways for effects on young people, this includes the dangerous sides throughout the programme, for instance in the trailer above, it shows a young pupil being stupid walking along a high bridge, the camera zooms in to show the effect this gives and zooms out so that you can see as viewers how high it is, which alerts young people it isn't safe and that anything can happen.
The way the camera shows the scenes from different angles shows the insecurity in Denzils friend - Kyle, face from Denzils view up on the bridge, which tells the audience that he finds it funny to start off with laughing and joking but the way the camera zooms in and focuses on his face shows the worry in the young person.

The speech in this trailer is very tense which shows that the young people inflict themselves to get into trouble and they all act as a group and influence each other to do things they may not want to. The script shows that the young people act big in front of their friends but deep down you see the effect and emotion that is deep inside on how they feel. The programmes are heavily edited so that they all flow nicely and chronologically so that the audience understand what happens because it continues and is in series and episodes. This is purely for your entertainment watching how the children live and is all non-fiction. We know this by the way they speak as a whole school to their teachers and are very un-respectable and the bond between the teachers and pupils is irrelevant.
Also another effect is that throughout the episodes and series it is always based on bad things happening and what the young people do which shows a mischievous side to them and that the characters which the episode is based on all come from a bad up-growing background and have side effects from the way they have lived before coming to the school so the majority of the time they are doing it to revenge.

The way the scenes are published as you see them on the screen adds up to the standard of the school it is, for instance, not all of the pupils wear full uniform and the main characters which the programme is based on are all scruffy looking, this meets their behaviour shown on screen and the personalities which us as the audience are identifying as we proceed to watch the programme. The lighting is always bright when there is a happy scene in this programme, which gives an effect of the inspiration and attitudes in the characters.
