Waterloo Road - Series 6 Episode 20 Trailer

How are young people presented in contemporary media?

This Programme is Waterloo Road, we know that waterloo road is a school and involves relationships between teachers and the pupils, and how they are treat and how they act.

The camera is used in many different ways for effects on young people, this includes the dangerous sides throughout the programme, for instance in the trailer above, it shows a young pupil being stupid walking along a high bridge, the camera zooms in to show the effect this gives and zooms out so that you can see as viewers how high it is, which alerts young people it isn't safe and that anything can happen.
The way the camera shows the scenes from different angles shows the insecurity in Denzils friend - Kyle, face from Denzils view up on the bridge, which tells the audience that he finds it funny to start off with laughing and joking but the way the camera zooms in and focuses on his face shows the worry in the young person.

The speech in this trailer is very tense which shows that the young people inflict themselves to get into trouble and they all act as a group and influence each other to do things they may not want to. The script shows that the young people act big in front of their friends but deep down you see the effect and emotion that is deep inside on how they feel. The programmes are heavily edited so that they all flow nicely and chronologically so that the audience understand what happens because it continues and is in series and episodes. This is purely for your entertainment watching how the children live and is all non-fiction. We know this by the way they speak as a whole school to their teachers and are very un-respectable and the bond between the teachers and pupils is irrelevant.
Also another effect is that throughout the episodes and series it is always based on bad things happening and what the young people do which shows a mischievous side to them and that the characters which the episode is based on all come from a bad up-growing background and have side effects from the way they have lived before coming to the school so the majority of the time they are doing it to revenge.

The way the scenes are published as you see them on the screen adds up to the standard of the school it is, for instance, not all of the pupils wear full uniform and the main characters which the programme is based on are all scruffy looking, this meets their behaviour shown on screen and the personalities which us as the audience are identifying as we proceed to watch the programme. The lighting is always bright when there is a happy scene in this programme, which gives an effect of the inspiration and attitudes in the characters.
