How are young people presented in contemporary media?
This film shows how a young innocent shy lad retaliates to his messed up family and conscience, showing how he acts to it and what the cause of his young life has bought him to.
The way the camera shots are being took it shows how the young lad awkwardly feels when his family act like they do in-front of him, we learn different effects by the expressions on his face as they act 'passionately' but with no love. The camera on the boys parent shows that she doesn't care, the way they zoom and how she is shown to feel comfortable with anyone shows the personality in her character and shows how she isn't respectable, it also shows the distance in the mother-son bond.
The film is based on the boys point of view with him speaking about his life which shows that this film is to make you feel like you are him and put you in the situation and position of him. From the film trailer we learn that young people feel awkward and intimidated by the parents splitting and how the women react to the marriage divorce, it shows the effect it has on the child as a person witnessing it at a young age.
In this film the lighting doesnt seem to change, it is a bright atmosphere throughtout which could link to the theme of upset and misunderstanding all the way through the film with the characters. By this i mean that the lighting stays the same, like the personality is, and it isnt expected to change in the film. The costume of the characters are casual which shows that they are original people, this says that young people are happy being normal and are fine about the way they dress, they don't expect more and agree at how they act and dress. The facial expression for the main character is that he tries to be happy, but we as an audience realise he is shy and that his expressions prove this.
Throughout this film there is background music and the lyrics relate to how the character is feeling and what it is thinking/acting like. For instance the lyrics 'shot through the heart, youre too late' comes on just after the young person gets told the "woman of his dreams" already has a boyfriend.. There is background music constantly when the young lad is talking about his life, when he is rubbing suncream on the girls back, she says something inappropriate and the music drops beats and rhythm instantly in a sharp way to show how he feels. This suggests how the young people feel and gives the audience a understanding of how they feel in the scenes.
